Rajpal Yadav was born and brought up in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. He did his schooling there and was also part of a theatre group. He then did a two year course in theatre from Bhartendu Natya Academy in Lucknow, after which he joined National School of Drama.

Rajpal Yadav moved to Mumbai after completing his acting course in Delhi. He was part of many rural theatrical plays and also acted in a television show.
